Privacy Policy

Commonplace — A Calm Personal Quote Book

Commonplace is designed with your privacy as a foundational principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any server we operate.

Data Storage

All quotes, notes, tags, and settings you create are stored locally on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, your data syncs across your devices using Apple's iCloud and CloudKit infrastructure. We do not operate any servers that receive or store your data.

Data We Do Not Collect

On-Device AI

When available (iOS 26+ with Apple Intelligence), Commonplace can generate themes, summaries, and find similar quotes using Apple's on-device language model. All AI processing happens entirely on your device. No text is sent to external servers for AI processing. You can disable AI features at any time in Settings.

iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud on your device, Commonplace uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your quotes across your devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

Camera and Photos

Commonplace can access your camera and photo library to scan quotes via OCR (optical character recognition). All image processing and text recognition happen on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Images are not stored or transmitted — only the extracted text is saved as part of your quote.

Third-Party Services

Commonplace does not integrate with any third-party services, APIs, or SDKs. There are no accounts, no login, and no network requests to any server we operate.

Data Export

You can export your entire quote collection as a JSON file at any time from Settings. This gives you full ownership and portability of your data.

Children's Privacy

Commonplace does not collect any data from any user, including children under 13. The app contains no objectionable content and is rated 4+.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
