Help with recording on Apple Watch and reading your day on iPhone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I start recording?

Open Dayscript on your Apple Watch and tap the red button. The watch shows “Recording” and a running timer. To stop, tap the stop button and confirm. You can also add the Dayscript complication to your watch face and tap it to start, or turn on a morning reminder in Settings.

How do I find something I said?

Open Days and type in the search field. Each result opens its day at that line. While recording, tap Mark on the watch to flag a moment; it shows up in the day with a flag.

Why did recording pause?

Phone calls, Siri, alarms, and other apps that use the microphone can interrupt recording. Dayscript tries to resume by itself; if it cannot, the watch sends a notification. Open Dayscript on the watch to continue.

When do recordings show up on my iPhone?

Recordings are sent in five-minute segments while your iPhone is nearby; you do not need to open the app. Apple Watch decides when to transfer them, so they can arrive a few minutes late. If you swipe Dayscript away in the iPhone app switcher, iOS stops waking it in the background and recordings wait on the watch until you open the app again.

Why does a segment say “Waiting to transcribe”?

Transcription runs on your iPhone: briefly as each recording arrives, while the app is open, and while your iPhone is charging. Anything left over is usually done overnight. The first time you use a language, iOS needs an internet connection to download its speech model.

Which languages are supported?

More than 30 languages and regional variants, including English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French and German. Choose up to three in Settings > Languages; each recording keeps the clearest result. Speakers are not labeled separately. The app itself is available in English and Simplified Chinese.

Where is my data?

On your Apple Watch until it transfers, then on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded to us. Audio is kept for 30 days by default (change it in Settings > Storage); text stays until you delete the day or the app.

Is it legal to record conversations?

It depends on where you are. Many places require everyone’s consent. Tell the people around you that you are recording.
