How do I add a quote?
Tap the + button from any screen. You can type a quote, paste text, take a photo with your camera, or select an image from your photo library. The app will automatically extract the quote text from images.
How does iCloud sync work?
If iCloud is enabled on your device, your quotes automatically sync across all your devices signed into the same Apple ID. Sync happens in the background — no manual action needed. You can check the sync status in Settings.
My quotes aren't syncing to my other device.
Make sure both devices are signed into the same Apple ID, have iCloud enabled, and are connected to the internet. Sync may take a few minutes. If the issue persists, try restarting both devices.
What is On-Device AI?
On devices running iOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence enabled, Commonplace can generate themes, reflection summaries, and find similar quotes in your collection. All processing happens on your device — nothing is sent to external servers. You can turn this off in Settings.
Why does On-Device AI show as "Unavailable"?
On-Device AI requires iOS 26 or later, a supported device (iPhone 15 Pro or later), and Apple Intelligence to be enabled in your device Settings. If any of these aren't met, AI features won't be available, but all other features work normally.
How do I export my quotes?
Go to Settings and tap "Export JSON". This creates a JSON file containing all your quotes, which you can save, share, or use as a backup.
How do I import quotes?
Go to Settings and tap "Import JSON". Select a previously exported JSON file. The app will import all quotes, skipping any duplicates.
Is my data private?
Yes. Commonplace does not collect any data. Your quotes are stored on your device and, if enabled, synced via your personal iCloud account. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party services. Read our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I delete all my data?
You can delete individual quotes from the Library. AI-generated data (themes, summaries, embeddings) can be cleared from Settings using "Clear AI Data".
